Green competences for the wine sector

Through a survey, the Green Vineyards project seeks the help of wine sector stakeholders to develop a green competence framework.

Green Vineyards project aims to train workers in the wine sector to help them face the challenges of climate change. A just and sustainable society with a modern, resource-efficient, and competitive economy cannot be achieved without a workforce to support it. That is why it is necessary to provide personnel with the knowledge and skills inherent to green jobs and to ensure that industries and workplaces do not face a shortage of suitably qualified workers.

The first step to designing open, free, and accessible online training content is to identify the green competences needed and any knowledge gaps. For that purpose, the consortium has designed a survey aimed at wine sector stakeholders. The survey is available in 6 languages (English, French, German, Italian, Macedonian, and Spanish).Through this action, the project also seeks to identify sustainable good practices across Europe.

Green Vineyards is a project funded by the European Commission within the Erasmus+ programme framework. Coordinated by the Universidad Internacional de La Rioja (UNIR), through the Research Institute for Innovation & Technology in Education (UNIR iTED), is a cooperative partnership of six partners from five European countries.

Logroño project meeting

The first green Vineyards partner’s face-to-face meeting took place last 8th September 2022 at Logroño, la Rioja, Spain.

The meeting was held the day after the public event organized to present the project at the UNIR headquarters in Logroño. All project partners attended in a daylong meeting that aimed to design and implement the tasks of work package 1.

Moreover, all the communication actions were reviewed: the new project website was presented and the different social media networks to be used by the project were discussed.

The next intermediate report was also discussed, showing the commitment of the consortium on meeting the deadline and quality standards.

Public presentation – GREEN VINEYARDS

Last 7th September 2022, The Universidad Internacional de La Rioja (UNIR) through its Institute for Research, Innovation and Educational Technology (UNIR iTED), host a public event to presentate Green Vineyards project to regional society.

The project, framed within the Erasmus+ programme, has a budget of 201,535 euros and a duration of 30 months. Daniel Burgos, director of the Institute for Research, Innovation and Educational Technologies (UNIR iTED) and coordinator of the project, has been in charge of presenting Green Vineyards at the UNIR Rectorate. The event was chaired by the rector of UNIR, José María Vázquez García-Peñuela.

Green Vineyards consists of a multidisciplinary team of six partners from Germany, Italy, France, North Macedonia and Spain, and its main objective is to increase the knowledge, skills and abilities of wine workers to meet the challenges of climate change.

The work to be carried out by the consortium links the environment, digitalisation and the agri- food sector, three of the European Commission’s priorities for the period 2021-2027. «Climate change is the biggest threat we face, and there is no doubt that its impact on the countryside is devastating. To achieve a fair and sustainable society, with a modern, resource-efficient and competitive economy, it is necessary to have a workforce to support it. That is why it is essential to train workers with the skills requirements inherent to green jobs,» said Daniel Burgos.

«For UNIR, Green Vineyards is a unique opportunity backed by the European Commission to reintegrate all the support it continually shows to our university to the society of La Rioja, this time through the wine sector, and with a continental repercussion through major partners in four key countries, such as France, Italy, North Macedonia and Germany,» concluded Burgos.

Specifically, the consortium is formed by the International University of La Rioja (ES); the Institut Français de la vigne et du vin (FR), CeSAR, Centro per lo Sviluppo Agricolo e Rurale (IT); Private Scientific Institution (MKD); Institute for research in environment, civil engineering and energy (MKD); Federacion Española del Vino (ES); and Lake Constaza Foundation (DE).

Green Vineyards for Society

A public presentation of the European project Green Vineyards will be held on Wednesday 7th September at the UNIR headquarters in Logroño, Spain. The event will start at 16h, with the aim of presenting the objectives and expected results of the project to future participants, authorities and other stakeholders will participate in the event. The keynote speech of the event will be delivered by Juan Antonio Leza, and expert on the industry.

In a more private session, the first face-to-face meeting of the consortium will be also held on September the 8th. 12 representatives of the 6 institutions will participate in the meeting, coordinated by UNIR and entrusted by the European Commission to implement the initiative.

Green Vineyards Communication Pack

With the beginning of September, we are launching a number of communication tools foreseen in the Green Vineyards project. The objective is to enhance the project impact and the effects of project results on the participants and target groups.

The main tool is the project website, www.greenvineyards.eu. The site will host all the information related to the intervention, including objectives, results, and a description of the partnership. However, the page will pay special attention to news, events and other information relevant to all stakeholders.

In parallel, we have launched the project’s twitter account, @green_vineyards . This social media channel will allow a quick, simple and convenient way of communication with the surrounding society.

Further social media channels will be put in place in the following weeks, including a LinkedIn and You Tube accounts.

Green Vineyards Project Launch

After receiving the green light from the European Commision and the Spanish Service for the Internationalisation of education, SEPIE, the first meeting of the Green Vineyards project took place last 11th July. Representatives of all the institutions involved in the project attended the meeting, which was held in online format, aimed to prepare all the administrative documentation for the project, as well as to analyse the first tasks and prepare the face-to-face meeting to be held in Logroño on the 7th and 8th September.

Green Vineyards project is a cooperation partnership (KA2) addressed to the VET sector. It aims to raise the knowledge, skills, and aptitudes of workers in the wine sector, so they can face the challenges of climate change.
